“I attend Derry regularly for sports massage and find his treatments help me recover quickly in between playing tournaments and heavy training sessions. He also has an excellent knowledge of anatomy and has been able to treat any injuries that I have had in the past. With regular treatments I am sure I have managed to avoid any further injury and it has certainly allowed me to stay on top of my game. I would highly recommend Derry’s treatments to anybody who is actively involved in sports or otherwise.”

Neuromuscular therapy – NMT

NMT is a form of clinical massage therapy that is a specific and scientific approach to pain relief. It involves the manual manipulation of soft tissues to relieve specific complaints of pain and dysfunction. Therapists use deep massage strokes and advanced stretching techniques to soften muscle and connective tissue. This allows them to move deeper into the muscle and break up adhesions, relieve entrapment of nerves and coax muscles to release from spasm.

Neuromuscular therapists are highly trained in Anatomy and Physiology, advanced treatment techniques such as muscle energy technique M.E.T., positional release and trigger point therapy. They will document all treatments and formulate a specific treatment plan. They can advise on necessary stretches or exercises to help you recover fully.

NMT is used by people for two main reasons

  • As an effective treatment for muscular pain.
  • To help speed recovery after exercise.

It is effective in a number of ways

  • Prevents injury and aids the healing process when soft tissue injuries occur by interrupting pain pathways and increasing blood flow.
  • Increases flexibility, balance, strength and improves energy by releasing muscular tension.
  • It relieves chronic neck, shoulder, back, hip and knee pain by rebalancing postural imbalances
  • Speeds the removal of toxic byproducts following exercise, promoting quicker recovery.
  • Treats a variety of conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, golfers/tennis elbow, runner’s knee, tension headaches, scoliosis, whiplash, sciatica, shin splints, tendonitis, fascitis and poor posture.

Did you know you can claim back the cost of your NMT treatments from your health insurance?

Most health insurance plans today recognise therapists registered with the A.N.M.P.T – The Association of Neuromuscular Physical Therapists and you can claim back all or some of the cost of your treatment depending on your insurance cover.
